Free Post: Things I am Interested In - Part 1

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

So today is my first "Free Post" in my new layout for daily blog posts. Today I'll be talking about things I Caleb Teal am interested in.

Video Gaming

To start off, I use to be an avid gamer. These days, I don't game as much, but when I do there are a few games that I am really into.

Lately I've been playing Marvel's Midnight Suns, which I am really enjoying, though I suck when it comes to the strategy sides of things. For most of my life, I wasn't into Marvel and as an adult I had developed a sort of tribalism favoring DC. However after my brother insisted I watch all the MCU movies, I changed my mind. I've never been a fan of the whole idea of rivalry between franchises, so these days I try to avoid taking part in that. But my new love of Marvel has allowed me to seek out anything Marvel I can, including this game Marvel's Midnight Suns.

A game that I am interested in that is coming soon is Hogwarts Legacy. I wasn't a really into Harry Potter much of my adult life, but as a kid my dad read the books to me. The very first 3D game I ever played when I was 9 or 10, was the computer game adaptation of Harry Potter Book 1. That game, left a lasting mark on me. I always loved the exploring the castle elements. And I played the following games up to adaptation of the 5th book. Unfortunately, during my late teens, I grew distant from Harry Potter, and by my young adult years I just had stopped paying attention to new movies and games altogether. Then I saw something about Hogwarts Legacy. Seeing information about the game brought back serious nostalgia, and I can't for the life of me ignore the chance to play this game.

Another game that I'm looking forward to in the next few years (hopefully) is Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. I got into Dragon Age three months before the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition. During that time, I raced through Dragon Age: Origins, and Dragon Age 2, getting myself ready for when Dragon Age Inquisition launched. Dragon Age Inquisition quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. I love it to hell and back. And then I had to wait years for the sequel I knew was coming. It was a long and arduous wait. Now, finally we are seeing hints that it will be coming soon, hopefully in 2023, but I'm not holding my breath.

As for other games I play: My alter Liliy likes taking time to play World of Warcraft with the few friends she has each day. I got into World of Warcraft, before I knew Liliy was there. Back then, it was a game I played with my dad when I was a young teenager. That was back during late Wrath of the Lich King. I played for many years, but eventually grew distant from it. However, my alter Liliy has recently latched onto it, for the new expansion, and she's having a good time.

Lets now talk about the music I like. I prefer heavy metal music or soundtrack music. Those are my two favorite genres.

For heavy metal music, I listen to Sabaton, Epica, and Amaranthe. Sabaton is a band that sings near exclusively about military history. They were the first heavy metal band I ever listened to, and have since become my favorite. Epica and Amaranthe I discovered due to their connection with Sabaton, and have grown to like their music.

I've heard people try to associate Sabaton with fascism and the far right, but those people are idiots. Sabaton sings about military history, about the battles of the past. When people accuse them of being far right, the band teaches those people a history lesson. Most of the events and people they sing about were from a time before fascism, and the ones about fascism paint fascists as the bad guys. They have enough songs about killing Nazis that they are very definitely not fascists.

As for Epica and Amaranthe. I don't know as much about them as bands, but I know I like their music.

Closing Thoughts

That is all for today's blog post. I'll continue talking about my interests in another blog post at a later date. Tomorrow I'll be doing another Lore Dive into the Avala Universe. I hope to see you then

Edit: I am aware of the controversy around the Hogwarts Legacy due to Rowling's view. I do not agree with her views, but given what I've seen with the game, the game is gender inclusive, which is why I am giving it a chance.
