Character Diaries: Alvaj - Season 1 - Entry 012

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

The Cycle of Ijar, 23rd cycle of the Month of the Great Sea, 1932 years after Creation / Monday, 2nd of February 6099

Back to work today. A few people questioned my choice of attire, thinking I was going back into the field. However, I explained to them what’s going on. Apparently it's not uncommon for this to happen to agents who have been undercover in a role for many years, that identity becomes a part of them, and some will even wear their disguise around at all times.

I just found out a Rathvhaara woman I recently met was actually a human who wore a holographic disguise at all times because of her perceived identity of being that specific Rathvhaara. She was in the role for thirty years before being called back, so I don’t blame her. She passed as a Rathvhaara so well that even her mannerisms didn’t seem human anymore.

This has helped me feel not so ashamed by my feelings and my identity. Apparently, the official term for it is Post Undercover Persistent Secret Identity Syndrome (PUPSIS). And the Adjutant diagnosed me with it. It's one of those mental differences that I’ve mentioned before, not usually worried about unless it began causing serious problems, like if I ended up taking justice into my own hands like the Athakarins do, or if I tried to sacrifice someone to the spirits. Both of which I don’t think I’ll do, though you’ll never know.

Anyway, today we actually started work on upgrading Hideout: Avli to be more appropriate for a proper planetary command base. We will need that if we are to properly assault Ecrekio. That way we can funnel troops and resources onto the planet, without accidentally getting caught in a Yajiran MELT trap. Those are no fun at all.

I put my back into the work, and Avala helped to. She wasn’t in the slightest bit surprised that I was wearing Athakarin clothing. In fact, it seemed to make her more at ease. Either way, me and Avala were probably the hardest working people there. Athakarins after all have really good work ethic, its unusual for an Athakarin to take breaks unless its to eat, use the chamber pot, or sleep.

Anyway, it will still take several more months before its all up to standards. We have to go slow, and silent to avoid detection. If we work to fast, the Yajixa would be able to hear or feel our digging, and with their strange way of seemingly able to teleport - spirit form I think they call it - they would be here in a moment.

I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep tonight. It will be good to sleep after a hard day’s work.
