Today I spent the morning working with Sylvia on reports, and the afternoon working on the Planetary Command. The hard, physical labor helped me feel better after the morning of grueling paperwork. I am not looking forward to becoming the Commander of the Intelligence Service. In fact, if Sylvia is looking close to retirement, I’m probably going to quit my job, just so I can’t be promoted to Commander. At this point, I don’t care what my dead parents would think, I am not going to spend my life doing paperwork and desk jobs. I want to be doing something meaningful with my life.
While working on the Planetary Command, it's nice to see Avala there. Even though we’re not married anymore, I still feel protective of her. I spent six years of my life after all trying my best to protect her. It's part of my identity. Unfortunately, in the past year she’s been growing more into a beautiful young woman and less of the little girl I once knew.
I spent six years refusing to see her as attractive, no matter what Commander Elexia tried to get me to do with her. And now, I feel ashamed that I think she’s becoming attractive. I know I shouldn’t. Isn’t it every person’s dream to be attractive? Nobody wants to be ugly. I’m also realizing that Athakarins are more attractive to me than regular humans now. It’s a strange thing indeed.
Anyway, Avala is doing well, which is good. She’s happy, healthy, and really starting to fit into the whole Republic Way of life. Me? I’m still struggling with that last part. I am a bit concerned by that. But no matter, this is who I am.
