So… I returned the file and confessed to Commander Sylvia. She… burst out laughing at me and asked me to explain the whole situation, then she gave me a medal, specifically the “Medal of the Truth Seeker” a minor medal dedicated to those who seek out the truth no matter what. There was a small ceremony to hand it out. Afterwards, she gave me top level clearance to the file should I seek to look into it again.
The two of us also discussed my fears I’ve been having with the Black Circle. It turns out they are real, and they do make people disappear. However, they legally must give people a choice before making them disappear. Sylvia isn’t privy to all the details, but I will never be made to disappear without my consent. As to why they make people disappear, it is anyone’s guess, but this Lorca fellow won’t just sneak into my room when I’m not looking and make me go ‘poof’.
As for my concerns that someone has been spying on me, or implanting me, Sylvia is aware enough about the legalities the Black Circle must go through to know they couldn’t be doing either unless they deemed me a serious threat to the Republic, which if they did, the EIS department of Threat Assessment, and the EIS department of Anomalous Individuals would have to also be informed. Sylvia checked, they don’t have anything on me. As for why they had my journal entries, that might have something to do with the Adjutant, as I suspected. Certain keywords had the entry forwarded.
As for why Lorca was interested in me, it might have something to do with my Mother. My mother, may her soul rest free from the Yajixa, had connections in the Black Circle, and was visited by them on a Regular basis. Before Lorca was commander, Sylvia was pretty certain he and my parents were friends. However, as Sylvia works with Lorca on a regular basis, she know he does not have an ounce of people skills in his body, which means he is awkwardly trying to introduce himself to me through the guise of doing his job.
This has all made me feel a lot better, and next time Lorca shows up I’ll apologize to him. I had no idea that he was a friend of my parents. If he had just told me the truth though I might have gone easier with him. However, Sylvia says in his line of work, secrecy is everything, even more so than in ours.
Anyway, I now have my first metal, and am proudly displaying it back home in my quarters. Next time I need info I don’t have clearance to Sylvia says I should discuss it with her, as a Rank A agent directly under her command that is proper protocol, since she can decide who has access to what info. If she deems my reasoning sound, she'll allow it.
